In a letter dated November 13, the community wrote to the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Abuja, on the death of its son in an automobile accident with the governor’s security details, calling for a thorough investigation for Nigerians to know the actual cause of Iyayi’s death.
Prof Iyayi was on his way to Kano, in the company of other members of ASUU, for
the union’s National Executive Council(NEC) meeting, where members were expected to discuss the recent offer by President Jonathan in a bid to call off the four-month old strike, but a car in the convoy of Kogi State governor Idris Wada ran into their vehicle. Iyayi lost his life in the accident, while two other members of ASUU, the National Welfare Officer, Dr Ngozi Ilo and Dr Anthoni Emina were injured.
