This news reviews that the House of Representatives is set to probe Nigeria Communications
Commission,NCC, and the nation’s telecommunications providers over
non-compliance with the directive to deactivate unregistered Subscriber
Identity Module, SIM, cards on their networks.
The House would also investigate allegation of allied abuses of good corporate governance by the service providers.
The House specifically resolved to investigate the NCC on the N6.1
billion appropriated for the
SIM registration exercise by the National
Assembly.
This development was sequel to a motion moved by Oluwole Oke under
matters of urgent national importance, entitled Motion for the
investigation of the non-compliance of telecommunications companies with
directives to deactivate unregistered Subscriber Identity Module, SIM,
cards on their networks and allegation of allied abuses of good
corporate government by telecommunication companies operating in
Nigeria.
Oke expressed worry that NCC discovered in December 2014 that about 45
percent of registered SIM cards on the mobile network were invalid due
to non-registration or improper registration.
