President Muhammadu Buhari
The news trending now has it that President Buhari has stated that his support for dialogue amongst
stakeholders in the nation's polity will accelerate political evolution
and help the Nigerian people.
He made this statement on Monday, January 25, while declaring open the maiden National Political Summit 2016 themed “2015 General Election: Consolidating the Gains and Building Positive Political Culture for Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria” in Abuja.
Represented by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the event organized
by Save Democracy Group Africa, the president said politics must be
seen as a venture to serve the people.
He said Nigeria and Africa needed morally upright elites to solve
the challenges of corruption and other vices ravaging the continent.
He thanked the organizers of the summit for inducting him as Grand Patron and conferring on him the Life Time Democracy Award.
The Award was received on behalf of Mr President by the Vice President.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, who spoke
at the occasion, noted that the legislative arm of government had played
a positive role towards electoral reforms and the pursuit of credible
elections.
