News As Umeh Arrested Over Treasonable Statement

The current political news has it that Contrary to claims by aides and supporters of the former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, a source has disclosed that his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS), is not due to any petition by political rivals.

A source told DAILY POST that Umeh, who is also the APGA senatorial candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial district, was arrested by the DSS over some alleged inciting statements he made at a campaign rally.

The source disclosed that on Wednesday, Umeh addressed a rally where he allegedly accused President Muhammadu Buhari of shielding Boko Haram fighters in

Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP), camps.

The source added that Umeh went further to blame Buhari as being responsible for naira exchanging at N400 per US dollar.

“DSS Operatives that attended the rally came back from their beat and incidented their report upon which further entries and clarifications, including follow up interviews with the operatives were undertaken. After processing the intelligence, the department decided to invite Umeh to explain his claims,” the source stated.

He explained that the DSS believed that Umeh went too far in his search for votes by telling the people that Fulani people were “destroying our farms with their cattle and Buhari did nothing.”

The source said though it was permissible for politicians to apply any trick to canvass for votes, the law did not allow incitement or threat to national security or sovereignty, pointing out that “the DSS feels the politician, who is determined to go to the Senate should back his allegations with facts.”
