Mr. Elijah Yegon
This is really shocking and unbelievable that a jobless Masters Degree holder from Kenya, Mr.
Elijah Yegon mustered the boldness to beg for job on the road while
holding a placard advertising his skills to prospective employers.
Base on news reports from Kenya, Yegon, 29 said he was forced to use
the unconventional method to seek for employment after seeing two
jobless graduates get job offers after standing beside the highways with
a placard.
Information reveal that the Economics and Statistics graduate has been a victim of two
companies that had to restructure and retrench in a bid to cut costs but
he still had hope in the sector plunging his lifetime savings into
acquiring a Master’s degree.
Narrating his predicament, Yegon said: “Since I had applied
for other jobs, I got a job offer at Kenafric in the same position but
in September 2015 they also announced their plans to cut down."
He then used his Sh200,000 savings to pay for a Master of Arts in
Project Planning and Management at the University of Nairobi. Since
then, he has not been able to secure a well paying job.
Mr Yegon is currently being housed by his village mate in Eastleigh estate and wakes up daily to drop his curriculum vitae.
“Sometimes I do blind applications but other times I apply for
advertised vacancies and have done approximately 500 applications both
online and physical this year,” he said.
He has not received any internship or job offers and sometimes
doubts if the documents will reach the employers as security officers
often ask him to leave them at the gate for lack of appointment.
