It is reported that Ifedayo Oladele Adeyemo, an Ado-Ekiti-based businessman, has been
killed by gunmen in Ibadan in the presence of his daughter and wife.
The information gathered according to Sunday Punch, Public Relations Officer of the Oyo
State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, revealed that the case was
being treated as armed robbery.
“I cannot say much on the case now because we are still
investigating. It looks like an
armed robbery case because N30,000 was forcefully taken from a woman in the car. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Odude, has directed discreet investigation into the crime and we shall not rest until we get to the root of the matter,” Ajisebutu said.
armed robbery case because N30,000 was forcefully taken from a woman in the car. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Odude, has directed discreet investigation into the crime and we shall not rest until we get to the root of the matter,” Ajisebutu said.
Sister of the deceased, Nike, said that her brother had left
Ado-Ekiti on Monday to attend a social function in Ibadan the following
day.
According to her, Adeyemo, who was returning from the function in
his car, was stopped by his killers who shot him several times at close
range.
“On the day he left Ado-Ekiti, our mother asked him why he had
to travel to Ibadan with his family. He told her that he had some
business to take care of in the city. Moreover, he has a house in
Ibadan. He travelled with his wife, daughter, sister-in-law and a friend
who is usually referred to as his personal assistant.
“From what I learnt, they were coming from the party around 9pm
on Tuesday, June 6, when his car was stopped by some men. As he was
demanding their identity and why they came after him, he was shot and
killed. The killers then drove away his car with other occupants while
the corpse was left at the scene,” Nike stated.
She further said, “When they got to a location on Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway, they stopped and left them (other occupants in the car)
there. They did not take away the car. They just told the people left in
the car that they had achieved their aim. So, it was like an
assassination.”
Adeyemo’s sister also revealed that her brother had poultry in Ado-Ekiti where he resided with his family.
The father of the deceased, Sunday Punch learnt, lived abroad.
Asked why her brother was referred to as ‘Olowo Dubai’ (rich man of
Dubai) by friends, Nike said he had travelled to Dubai sometime ago
with his family on vacation for a month.
“They finally killed him (Adeyemo). They killed my one and only
brother that knows when I am sad and when I am happy. Who am I going to
call ‘Brother Dayo? Death, why my brother?” the deceased’s sister wrote on her Facebook page.
Some of those who commented on the death of the businessman on
social media claimed it was a clear case of assassination. Most of them
said the deceased was rich and popular in social circles, and that he
helped many people who approached him for financial assistance.
