⚠️ AI Denying Your Healthcare? The Trump Admin Thinks That’s a Good Idea π€π
Would you trust a robot to approve your grandma’s surgery?
That’s exactly what’s on the horizon — and it’s not science fiction.
π¨ Here’s What’s Happening:
The Trump Administration is rolling out a controversial new plan to let Artificial Intelligence (AI) decide whether YOU or your
loved ones get medical treatments under Traditional Medicare — yes, the very program millions rely on for essential care. This plan kicks off under a new model called WISeR — short for Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction — running from 2026 to 2031.
π€ Public-Private AI Partnerships? Sounds Dangerous.
Under WISeR, the government will team up with private companies that specialize in AI-powered “medical necessity” recommendations. The goal? Cut costs. The risk? Delay or denial of life-saving treatments.
CMS says it's about eliminating waste. But critics say it’s really about cutting corners — and care.
πΈ In 2022 alone, the government says we spent $5.8 billion on low-value care — treatments they now claim don’t help or even do more harm than good.
But who decides what's "low value"? π€
Answer: An AI. Backed by a company. With
Does that sound safe to you?.
❌ The Dangers of Prior Authorizations (PAs)
Let’s break it down:
Prior Authorizations = Red Tape before you can get a test, medication, or procedure.
They already exist in Medicare Advantage (run by private insurers) and we KNOW they delay and deny care. Now CMS wants to bring this to Traditional Medicare too. π‘
π A 2024 AMA Survey revealed:
-
93% of doctors say PAs delay care
-
Always: 15%
-
Often: 42%
-
Sometimes: 36%
-
-
82% say patients abandon care because of PAs
-
Always: 2%
-
Often: 20%
-
Sometimes: 60%
-
π§Ύ The Numbers Are Alarming:
-
In 2023, providers filed 50 million PA requests in Medicare Advantage
-
3.2 million (6.4%) were denied
-
Only 11.7% of denials were appealed
-
81.7% of those appeals were successful
π Translation: Most denials are wrong, but few people know or fight back
A GAO report also found that 13% of PA denials were improper
That means 112,000+ people may have been wrongly denied care — in a single year π±
π§ AI Isn’t Just Helping — It’s Deciding
Yes, the WISeR model requires clinicians to "validate" AI decisions. But how much oversight will there really be?
Private companies + AI + incentives = a recipe for disaster. π₯
And once it’s in Traditional Medicare? There’s no going back.
❓So... Who Really Benefits?
✅ Insurance companies
✅ Government budgets
❌ Patients
❌ Seniors
❌ Your health
π£️ What Do You Think?
Should AI get the final say in your medical care?
Should Medicare put cost-cutting ahead of patient well-being?
