INEC Chairman Monitors Voting in Abuja

Electoral update as the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, on Saturday morning monitored accreditation and voting in the ongoing council election in Abuja. 

During the exercise, he called on the residents of the Federal Capital Territory to all come out to elect their council chairmen and councilors. 

Yakubu spoke when he visited some of the INEC Super Registration Areas Centres. 

He also used the visit to monitor the distribution of election materials. 

Super RACs, according to the commission, are areas  where elections materials and ad-hoc staff are being disributed to wards and polling units.

Bayelsa Supplementary poll: INEC Begins Distribution of Sensitive Materials

News reaching us has review that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa on Thursday said it had commenced distribution of sensitive election materials for Saturday’s supplementary poll in the state.

The Commission’s Public Affairs Officer in Bayelsa, Mr Timidi Wariowei, made this known in Yenagoa.

Wariowei said the Commission received the sensitive materials on Wednesday and distribution had commenced in Ekeremor Local Government Area on Thursday.

INEC New Chairman Appointed - Buhari

News reaching us has it that the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Mahmud Yakubu as new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


The appointment was confirmed at the emergency Council of State meeting held today by the president.

Sokoko State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who briefed State House correspondents after the meeting, said the appointment of the new INEC boss was in line with relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State.

He said the Acting chairman of the Commission, Amina zakari, is now the INEC Commissioner representing the North-West.

This is the State-by-state PVC collection statistics from INEC. The highest so far are Nasarawa (96%), Gombe (95%), Katsina (92%), Kaduna (91%), Zamfara (90%), while the lowest are Ogun (40%), FCT (61%), Lagos (62%), Edo (64.3%), Oyo (64.9%).
