NigerianEye findings revealed that the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) asked operators of the Global System for Mobile communication to deactivate all unregistered subscriber identity modules (SIMs), prompting subscribers of the MTN networks to storm offices of the network in a last minute rush to register their mobile lines.

Hackers hit Sony and Microsoft Xbox console

The online gaming networks for Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox consoles — hot gifts this Christmas — went dark in what hackers said was a coordinated attack.
The disruption started Christmas Day and went into Friday, PlayStation and Xbox said on their Twitter feeds, adding that they were working to restore service.

A subsequent message posted to the Xbox status page early Friday upgraded service to “limited” — a sign that support teams were making inroads in fixing the problem.
A new Twitter user going by the name “Lizard Squad” took credit for the disruption, claiming it had the “nation on strings.”
The name is the same used by a group of hackers that has targeted Sony in the past, though it was not possible to verify the Twitter account’s authenticity. The account did not return request for comment and only became active Wednesday.
Sony this month was hit by a sophisticated hacking attack that stole massive amounts of data from its servers. The US has blamed North Korea for the attack, with the hermit state seen as

The machine, hand-built by Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak, still works. When the Apple 1 launched, it marked the true beginning of the home computing era.

The machine, hand-built by Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak, still works. When the Apple 1 launched, it marked the true beginning of the home computing era.

To build the first prototype, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak sold his HP calculator (then a hi-tech luxury) for $500.

Jobs famously sold his VW van for $250.

Apple 1 paved the way for the PC era – despite having a mere 8k of memory and being able to show only a few characters on screen.

Kenya To Develop Silicon Savannah - Africa's City Of Dreams

What if there were a city where big ideas become real, where traffic jams are obsolete, where women and men develop futuristic technologies together, where natural and urban ecosystems coexist in a high-tech hospital and a cheetah sanctuary, where rich and poor are lifted together?

Dr. Catherine Nyaki Adeya says that city is being built, now, on the outskirts of Kenya's capital of Nairobi – a metropolis known less for its many attributes than for gridlock and congestion and crime.

The idea of Konza – spearheaded under former President Mwai Kibaki and developed by the administration of his successor, President Uhuru Kenyatta – can be seen as a kind of 'do-over', a city of the future built from scratch.

Pistorius brother was suspected of wiping phone data after killing

Police suspected the brother of Oscar Pistorius of wiping data from the Olympian’s phone in the days after he killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a South African radio station claimed on Thursday.

Investigators believed Carl Pistorius synchronised his computer with his brother’s iPhone, wiping out the entire call history and all WhatsApp messages, according to an investigation by Eyewitness News (EWN).

Police “considered charging him with defeating the ends of justice but ultimately declined to proceed with a case against him,” EWN said.

It also revealed that Oscar Pistorius spoke to an ex-girlfriend, Jenna Edkins, just minutes before he came home to Steenkamp on the fateful night of February 14, 2013.

Edkins, who dated the runner on and off for several years, was stored in his phone under the pseudonym “Babyshoes”.

'Selfies' Frowned Upon, But Technology Is Transforming The Hajj

Technological advances and design engineering at the mosques of Mecca and Medina are promising a safer and more comfortable Hajj experience this year as 2 million Islamic faithful converge on Saudi Arabia.
But much to the dismay of tradition-bound Muslim clerics, a proliferation of smartphones among those affluent enough to make the journey has also encouraged young pilgrims to snap photos of themselves kissing the Mosque's black stone or taking self portraits with other sacred venues in the background.

"Selfie fever has taken pilgrims and visitors to the two holy mosques by storm in recent days, much to the chagrin of scholars and other pilgrims who condemn such ‘touristy behavior,’" the News observed in an article on the new penchant for documenting the ritual expected of observant Muslims at least once in their lives if they can afford it.
