BLM organizers and activists said they were there "to represent and to support and to have the back of Karmelo Anthony who could be any of our sons."
Organizers from BLM announced plans to be at the trial everyday, with signs saying the trial is "JIM CROW 2.0" and claiming Texas still criminalizes Black self-protection.
However, BLM has been accused of political theater and not caring about the black community. In fact, they often don't show up without a political agenda and BLM members and leaders have been accused and convicted of fraud
🔺️Shalomyah Bowers, board secretary of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (GNF):
Bowers allegedly siphoned more than $10 million in donor funds and used the organization as his "personal piggy bank."
The filing called him a "rogue administrator, a middle man turned usurper" who engaged in self-dealing by awarding grants and exorbitant fees to his own Bowers Consulting firm - while fraudulently raising money from unsuspecting donors and padding pockets.
🔺️Tashella Sheri Amore Dickerson (also known as T. Sheri Dickerson), Executive Director of Black Lives Matter OKC:
A Federal grand jury returned a 25-count indictment (20 wire fraud, 5 money laundering)
Prosecutors allege she stole at least $3.15 million from BLMOKC grants, accounts, and returned bail funds between at least June 2020 and October 2025 in Oklahoma City.
She allegedly spent it on personal items including a new car, six real estate properties, shopping sprees, and trips to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic instead of grant purposes for community work. Primary sources.
🔺️Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
In October 2020, shortly after BLMGNF received a $66.5 million donation infusion, she used an intermediary to purchase a $6 million seven-bedroom Studio City, Los Angeles, California compound in cash using donated funds.

Cullors admitted in May 2022 that she used the property for personal parties at least twice and filmed YouTube content there.
Her brother reportedly monitored it and received BLM-related payments.
She had earlier purchased multiple personal homes totaling nearly $3 million around the fundraising peak and resigned as executive director in May 2021 after backlash.
She defended purchases as building lasting assets for Black-led groups.
An Atlanta self-proclaimed BLM leader faced FBI arrest for allegedly misusing around $200,000 in donor funds.

BLMGNF overall raised over $90 million in 2020.
Chapters and watchdogs documented complaints that very little of that money reached local programs, with heavy spending on consultants, travel, retreats, and salaries per tax filings.
