Why court case of alleged mastermind of the Nyanya bomb blast, Aminu Ogwuche was struck out – FG

Federal Government, yesterday, revealed that the case against the alleged mastermind of the Nyanya bomb blast, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, was discontinued because the accused was not meant to face prosecution at the time he was arraigned.

The government said it arraigned Ogwuche at the Federal High in Abuja to fulfil condition put by the Sudanese authorities for his extradition from Sudan to Nigeria.

The Coordinator of the National Information Centre(NIC), Mr Mike Omeri, who gave the reason at the resumption of a security briefing along side the Spokespersons of the various security agencies, in Abuja, said investigation was still ongoing on Ogwuche’s involvement on the April 14 Nyanya bomb explosion.

Ogwuche was arrested in Sudan and brought to the country on 15 July, 2014 on charges of being the mastermind of the 14 April twin bomb blasts in Nyanya, Abuja.

On November, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja Federal High Court struck out the two count charge brought against Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, for want of diligent prosecution by the Nigeria Police Force.

In spite of serial violation of the ceasefire agreement between the Boko Haram sect and the Federal government, the Federal Government insisted yesterday that negotiations were still ongoing between it and the Boko Haram sect on the release of abducted Chibok schoolgirls.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Adoke, who addressed state House Correspondents after a meeting of the National Security Council in Abuja said the service chiefs briefed the council on the negotiation between them and the sect.

He said the recent violation in no way violated government’s resolve to ensure the safe release of the girls.

FG to ban commercial motorcycles nationwide

The use of motorcycles as commercial means of transport in Nigeria, popularly known as ‘Okada’ or ‘Achaba’ may soon be banned throughout the country.

The proposal for the ban was made by the National Council on Transport after its annual conference in Enugu State and endorsed by the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar.

A statement from the Federal Ministry of Transport on Saturday evening stated that the ban of commercial motorcycle was one of the measures proposed towards adequate provision of safety and secure transportation in Nigeria.

FG, states, LGs share N603.5 Billion for Sept

The Minister of State for Finance, Mr Bashir Yuguda, on Wednesday announced that Federal, States and Local Governments shared N603.5bn revenue that accrued to the nation in September.

Yuguda made this known in Abuja when he briefed newsmen on the outcome of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee meeting.


He said that the shared amount comprised statutory revenue of N463.7bn, N35.5bn Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme funds and N6.3bn refunded by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Other components of the money, according to him, were Value Added Tax figure of N65.1bn, another N30bn payment from NNPC and N2.7bn Excess Crude money released to augment shortfall in revenue generated during the period.

FG supplies more relief items to Chibok

The Federal Government on Monday gave additional relief items to Internally Displaced Persons in Chibok, Borno, to further cushion the hardship in the area.

Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, the North-East Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, said in Yola, Adamawa, that the items were given in compliance with the directive from the presidency.

He said the agency was currently taking care of registered 10,376 IDPs in Chibok and its environs.

He also said experts from the Safe School Initiative (SSI) also accompanied NEMA team to conduct needs assessment on schools destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents in the area.

FG set to ban “ponmo”

Federal Government may have concluded plans to ban sale and widespread consumption of hides and skins (PONMO)which is a delicacy to most Nigerians.

This indication emerged Tuesday when the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product.

FG extends confab by six weeks

The Federal Government has extended the duration of the National Conference by six weeks.

Under the new arrangement, the conference will now end on July 31 instead of the earlier June 19 when the discussion had been programmed to last.

PDP CRISIS: Jonathan begs Govs Aliyu, Lamido to return to PDP

The alleged resolve by majority of the governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the embattled National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, forced the Presidency to suspend the meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee, NEC.
