Over unpaid N77,600 bills, Triplets and mum detained in Benue hospital

Current update as the happiness of a mother of triplets have been cut short, after she was reportedly detained in a General hopsital in Benue State, over her unpaid  medical bills two weeks after the children were delivered.
Through A social media user Ukan Kurugh, disclosed that the couple Mr and Mrs Dennis Anongo need the sum of N77,600 to pay the medical bills, so they can take their children home. Here’s what he wrote about the incident;

Court Bars MTN From Moving Funds Abroad

News reaching us has it that the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday barred MTN Nigeria Communications Limited from moving any funds from all banks in Nigeria abroad pending hearing of its suit challenging the N1.4trillion fine imposed on it by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

Justice Mohammed Idris ordered parties to maintain status quo.

“An order is hereby made directing the parties cited herein to maintain the status quo ante bellum pending further hearing,” the judge said.

News As Naira Weakens Against The Dollar


Money and currency news on our news desk reviews that the Nigeria’s naira weakened further in the parallel market on Thursday, down 0.59 percent after the central bank’s exclusion of some bureaux de change operators from its dollar sale on Wednesday created a shortage of dollars.

The local currency was quoted at an unofficial 253 to the dollar, down from 251.5 at the previous day’s close.

The local currency was trading at 198.97 to the dollar on the official interbank market at 1117 GMT, close to a rate at which it has been pegged since February.

This gist reviews that Banks Besieged By Customers As BVN Registration Deadlines Expires With just 24 hours to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, less than half of the 52 million bank customers have been registered, a development that may have caused discomfort in the banking industry.

Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had said no extension would be made while non-registered bank customers would be barred from accessing their money or any transaction in their account after tomorrow.

About 26 million bank customers would be affected by the shut-out.

An official of the apex bank told newsmen yesterday that the registration window would still be opened after tomorrow, but unregistered customers would not be allowed access to their accounts.

The official, who claimed that the exact figures of registered bank customers would not be ready until next week, however lamented that “less than half of total bank customers have been captured as at Monday this week.

“Field reports show that there has been increased surge in the number of registrations per day since last week, but it is clear that we may not exceed 50 percent by the deadline.”

The World Bank Said ''Abacha's Loot Is Too Huge For Us To Handle''

A Suspected Robber Falls From Bank’s Roof

The current and latest news on our desk has it that there was drama on Friday at the Unity Road Branch of Guaranty Trust Bank in Ilorin as a suspected robber fell from the bank’s roof, throwing the banking hall into pandemonium. NAN gathered that the suspect was hiding in the roof of the bank while waiting for his accomplices to commence a robbery operation when he fell.

A security man attached to the bank told NAN on condition of anonymity that the suspected robber must have been hiding in the roof overnight. He also said nobody knew how the suspect got into the roof of the bank as there was no sign of damage to any of the security doors in the bank.

The security man said the suspect was promptly apprehended by some customers inside the banking hall and later handed over to the police. The Police Public Relations officer, ASP Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident to NAN.

A financial expert told EEB that most of these people are not really to blame but high interest rates charged by the banks, plus the facts that the Federal Government too is owing most of them.

Nigerian Deposit Money Banks has continued with the policy of revealing delinquent debtors with publication of names of firms and directors whose loans have become non-performing for over one year.

While nine banks published the names of the loans defaulters on Monday, four banks released the lists of their chronic debtors, owing a total of N143.81bn, on Tuesday.

The four banks are First Bank, Access Bank, Diamond Bank and Unity Bank.

Fire guts Access Bank In Benin

The Airport road branch of Access Bank in Benin, Edo state, was Wednesday night gutted by a rampaging fire.

Eye witnesses said the fire started from the rear top floor of the building at about 7:00 p.m.

It was also gathered that officials of the bank were still inside the building when the fire started.

Prompt response by men of Edo State Fire Service supported by the Nigeria Air Force Fire Service helped put out the fire.

This guy is a special case of a capital 'oniranu' ... pardon my french but I am reeling in laughter trying to picture how he must have walked through the automated door like every other customer, jumps over the counter and started stuffing his bag with money.... very epic scenery!  But for the failed ring, some bankers would have been in trouble today over monies that suddenly went missing.
