Military Accuses Niger Soldiers Of Looting And Helping Boko Haram.

Nigerian military responded with uncontrollable anger on thursday after its soldiers were dismissed by the defence authorities of Niger as “cowards”, in a rare public tit-for-tat between the two countries involved in the fight against extremist group, Boko Haram.

Niger’s Defence Ministry had in an earlier statement said its soldiers, unlike their Nigerian counterparts, do not run away in the face of battle with Boko Haram militants.

“Our soldiers are not like Nigerians. They don’t run,” the statement said.

In series of tweets, the Nigerian Defence Spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, branded Nigerien soldiers “looters”, and accused them of providing fighters to Boko Haram.

AIG Mbu- ''We Will Kill 20 For Each Police Life Lost During Elections''

The newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Joseph Mbu, on Thursday declared that the elections in his zone will be “fire for fire” if politicians play any pranks.

The police boss made this declaration at a meeting with police of the Ogun State Command at its Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta.

Mr. Mbu instructed his men to be battle-ready for the election and warned politicians to have a second thought over any planned criminal act in the up coming 2015 election.

He made it clear that if any of his men were shot, no less than twenty civilians would pay for it.

“If one of my men is killed, I shall kill twenty of them but don’t shoot first,” Mr. Mbu said. “If they shoot you, shoot back in self-defence. Anybody who fires you, fire him back in self-defence.”

He told his men that they were the only authority with the power to arrest, before, during and after elections.

He noted that it was not compulsory for the police officers to greet even a governor who comes to vote.

Army to court-martial Brig-Gen, 21 others

The Nigeria Army will on January 16, arraign one brigadier-general and 21 other officers before a General Court Martial in Lagos. Punch reports that Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, who is  a defence counsel to some of the soldiers confirmed this on Wednesday.

However, the army authorities are yet to release the charges brought against the accused, but it was gathered that the officers are being charged for offences they allegedly committed in line of duty while battling insurgents in the North-East zone of the country. Falana told Punch he is yet to receive the charges against his clients.

The GCM is to hold at the 9 Brigade Officers’ Mess, Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos.

The accused officers include Brig.-Gen. J.O. Komolafe; Colonels A. Laguda, V. Ebhaleme, V.O. Ita, and I.B. Maina.

Others are Colonels I. A Aboi, I.M Kabir, M.H. Abubakar, A. A. Egbejule, N. N. Orok, C. A. Magaji, A.O. Agwu, A.J.S. Gulani, O.O. Obolo and A.M. Adetuyi.

The list also include Lieutenant-Colonels I. A. Aboi, I.M. Kabir, M.H. Abubakar, A. A. Egbejule, N. N. Orok, C. A. Magaji, A.O. Agwu, A.J.S. Gulani, O.O. Obolo and A.M. Adetuyi.

The only Major among the accused officers is M. M. Idris and the others include Captains M Adamu, O. A. Adenaika, M. Gidado, M.M. Clark and S. Raymond.

S.O. Olowa is the only second lieutenant among the officers.

Ex-militant, Tompolo, buys seven warships

A former Niger Delta militant, Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, alia Tompolo, has bought seven decommissioned Norwegian battleships.

Reports by a Norwegian newspaper, Dagbladet, said that the fast-speed Hauk-class guided missile boats had been re-armed with new weaponry.


The report also revealed that Ekpemupolo’s most recent purchase is a KNM Horten, a fast-attack craft now used in fighting piracy in Nigeria’s waterways.

It was learnt that in spite of his alleged history of violence, Tompolo, now controls the Global West Vessel Service, a privately owned contractor for maritime security for the Nigerian Maritime Safety Agency.

Buying arms from Norway requires an export license from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ships were reportedly sold first to CAS Global, a British security company that has such a license, after which Ekpemupolo reportedly bought the ships from the British company.

Dagblade reported that the seven Norwegian ships are now part of the company’s maritime fleet patrolling under a contract for the Federal Government.

Nigerian army recaptures Chibok town

The Nigerian military has retaken Chibok, a town in Borno State, where nearly 300 schoolgirls were abducted on April 14, from the extremist Boko Haram sect.

The terrorist sect had taken control of the troubled town on Thursday night.

But the spokesperson of the Army Division in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, said the Army has retaken the town and driven the terrorist away.

Sani Usman, a Colonel And Deputy Director Army Public Relations, said, “Troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army have recaptured Chibok town in Borno State from Boko Haram terrorists since yesterday.”

“The military is still carrying out mopping up operations in the surrounding environment. Chibok town is now fully secured”.

Villagers around Chibok town said they saw a large deployment of soldiers moving in from the direction of Damboa towards Chibok on Saturday morning.

Another Military Helicopter Crashes in Adamawa State

Just a few days after a military helicopter crashed in the Damare area of Adamawa State, another one has crashed in Yola.

The latest crash occurred late yesterday night, according to Premium Times.


Multiple sources in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, revealed on Thursday night that another military helicopter crashed around 9 p.m Thursday around the surroundings of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology‎ [MAUTECH] in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

“It is true a helicopter just crashed near MAUTECH at around 9:30 pm. There were actually two of them flying beside each other and when one crashed, the other one turned back,” said a Yola resident who simply gave his name as Dan Asabe.

A student of MAUTECH, Abdulrahman Shehu, stated that he saw the helicopter go down.

Mr. Shehu said Thursday night, “We came out of our hostel when we heard the sound of choppers and noticed that there were two of them flying in the dark without lights on.

Army Chief, Lt. Colonel Isaac Zida Assumes Power In Burkina Faso; President Flees

The second in command of Faso's presidential guard, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida, said on Saturday he had taken power after deposed President Blaise Compaore reportedly fled the capital.

Zida declared a rival claim by army chief Navere Honore Traore was "obsolete" in a televised speech.

The tussle for power comes after an extraordinary week of violent protest against Compaore's 27-year rule that saw parliament stormed and set ablaze.

Zida, who is leading a group of young army officers, said he had assumed "the responsibilities of head of the transition and of head of state" to ensure a "smooth democratic transition".

"The aspirations for democratic change" of the Burkina youth "will be neither betrayed, nor disappointed," he said.


He told journalists that the former president, who was said to have fled the capital Ougadougou, was "in a safe place" and his "safety and well-being are assured".

Earlier, Zida ordered the closure of the country's borders.

25 officers, 92 soldiers face court martial in Jos

A total of 117 Nigerian Army personnel, comprising 25 officers and 92 soldiers are facing a military court martial at the Headquarters of the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, Jos.

The officers comprise two Lieutenant-Colonels, a major, eight captains and 14 lieutenants.

Investigations revealed that the military personnel, whose cases are being handled in batches, were initially scheduled to appear before the General Court Martial at the Headquarters of the One Division, Kaduna, but were taken to Jos for security reasons.

It was learnt that the officers were posted from the 7th Infantry Division of the Nigerian Army to the Division One of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, to face the Court Martial for the purpose of jurisdiction.

The General Officer Commanding the One Division, Maj.-General KC Osuji issued the convening order for the General Court Martial of Army Personnel in Kaduna on August 6, 2014.
