NEWS UPDATE: Buhari To Provide 'New Insurance Package' For Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram

Reliable information reaching us has it that the Minister of Defence, retired Brig.-Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali, said on Friday that the Federal Government would introduce insurance package for soldiers fighting insurgency in the North-East.

News has it that the former minister of Education, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has asked Nigerians to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to get pardon the soldiers arrested for mutiny in the fight against Boko Haram.

News As Army Frees Man Wrongly Arrested

News on our news desk has it that Abubakar Sadiq, a young man that was arrested by the soldiers after he was linked to one of the photographs of 100 hundred wanted Boko Haram terrorists, that was published in October by the Nigeria Army, had been freed on Friday after weeks of intensive investigation, officials said. 

Sadiq, who was believed to have a facial resemblance with the suspect number 28 on the published photos, was released after a joint investigation team of the army later discovered that he was not the same person as the one published by the Directorate of Army Public Relations.

News Reviews That Nigerian Military Begins Invasion Of Boko Haram Fortress In Sambisa

News reaching us has it that the military has commenced a major invasion of terrorist camps deep into the Sambisa Forest.

The Acting Director, Army public relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Sunday that the invasion was a combined operation between ground troops and the fighter pilots of the Nigerian Air Force.

He said that various units of the Army had advanced into the forest and had cleared many of the terrorists’ camps.

Final Warning From Army To Boko Haram Terrorists


 Breaking news trending now has it that the Nigerian Army, yesterday, issued a swift final warning to Boko Haram terrorists who are yet to surrender, to do so without further delay in order to escape the impending final onslaught.

Soldiers Foil Suicide Attack At Maimalari Barracks In Borno

News as A suspected female Boko Haram suicide bomber was today shot dead by Nigerian soldiers after she attempted to forcefully enter into Maimalari army barracks in Maiduguri, Borno state with an explosive concealed in her handbag.

According to reports, a woman was making her way towards the entrance of the barracks when she was asked to stop by soldiers for a thorough search.

Soldiers Killed By Pirates In Bayelsa Increases To 5 As Body Of Soldiers Is Found Floating In River

25 officers, 92 soldiers face court martial in Jos

A total of 117 Nigerian Army personnel, comprising 25 officers and 92 soldiers are facing a military court martial at the Headquarters of the 3rd Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, Jos.

The officers comprise two Lieutenant-Colonels, a major, eight captains and 14 lieutenants.

Investigations revealed that the military personnel, whose cases are being handled in batches, were initially scheduled to appear before the General Court Martial at the Headquarters of the One Division, Kaduna, but were taken to Jos for security reasons.

It was learnt that the officers were posted from the 7th Infantry Division of the Nigerian Army to the Division One of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, to face the Court Martial for the purpose of jurisdiction.

The General Officer Commanding the One Division, Maj.-General KC Osuji issued the convening order for the General Court Martial of Army Personnel in Kaduna on August 6, 2014.

Rights groups demand prosecution of the soldier who raped a Poly student

Remember the Ibarapa Polytechnic student who was allegedly raped by a soldier attached to the Oyo State security outfit - Operation Burst? (Read it Here) Well, there might be hope of her getting justice as human rights organisations have urged the government to investigate the sexual assault.

Popular human rights activist and President of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, in a chat which Punch described the alleged raping as a reflection of abuse of power by security agents.
She said, "It is sad. It is a terrible reminder of what security has become. That is the height of impunity. Soldiers that are supposed to be at the war front in the north are busy perpetrating such heinous act.
