Man Who Tried to Kidnap One of President Obama's Dogs

News reaching us as US police have arrested a man who allegedly plotted to kidnap one of President Obama's two pet dogs. Officials say Scott Stockert who is from the state of North Dakota, was planning to snatch one of the dogs, either Bo or Sunny.
 

Police in Washington DC found weapons in Stockert's vehicle, including a shotgun, a rifle and a machete. Agents say he made several outlandish claims during his arrest, including that he intended to run for president.

Plane makes emergency landing on U.S highway

A small plane has made an emergency landing on a US interstate highway in the New York borough of The Bronx.

The single-engine Piper PA-28 touched down on the Major Deegan Expressway on Saturday afternoon after maintenance workers repairing potholes stopped traffic to leave the road clear.

None of the three on board suffered serious injury, local media say.

They say investigators are looking into the cause of the emergency – possibly a mechanical failure or fuel shortage.

The plane had taken offfrom the city of Danbury in Connecticut for a flight around the Statue of Liberty, according to officials.

US, UK ignore Obasanjo’s controversial letter to Jonathan

United States and the United Kingdom have maintained sealed lips on the letter from former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Jonathan.

In the letter which has been a major subject in the political scene, Obasanjo accused Jonathan of training a killer squad.

He also accused him of promoting ethnic agenda, embarking on political vendetta by putting 1,000 politicians on his watch list and not showing enough commitment to the fight against corruption.

Although Jonathan had refuted the allegations, the two world powers said they had nothing to say about the issue.

US Marines to evacuate Americans from South Sudan

About 150 US Marines are poised to enter turbulent South Sudan to help evacuate Americans and provide security for the US Embassy, if ordered to do so, two US military officials said Monday.

The troops are moving from Moron, Spain, to the Navy’s Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.

An estimated 100 US citizens are believed to be in South Sudan, where steady violence is stoking fears of an all-out civil war in the world’s newest country.

“By positioning these forces forward, we are able to more quickly respond to crisis in the region, if required,” read a statement from US Africa Command.

It cited the example of Benghazi, where an attack last year killed US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

“One of the lessons learned from the tragic events in Benghazi was that we needed to be better postured, in order to respond to developing or crisis situations, if needed. These precautionary movements will allow us to do just that,” the statement read.
