Court threatens to punish Obasanjo over published book

A Federal Territory Territory High Court in Wuse Zone II, Abuja, has declared former President Olusesegun Obasanjo of being in comptent of court by going ahead to flout its order, which restrained him from going ahead with the publication of its book, ‘My Watch’.

Justice Valentine Ashi on Wednesday gave Obasanjo 21 days to show cause why he should not be punished for flouting the court order and also ordered security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Service, to recover the book from book stands.

He ordered that the enrolled orders of the court be served on all media houses in the country and be equally served on the defendant by publication in two national daily newspapers.

A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who enrolled Tuesday for a Master/PhD in theology at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, said he took on the course to deepen his knowledge of God and serve Him better and not because he aspired to become a pastor.

Mr. Obasanjo, who was speaking after completing his registration at the university’s main study centre in Lagos, also said that by enrolling for a Ph.D, he was out to prove that one’s position or age should not be a barrier for continuous learning.

“Learning should be a continuous process and if you can do it and learn without the formality of a university, all well and good. But I chose to learn and continue to learn by other means and through the discipline and the formality of the university system,” he said.

Obasanjo fires another letter, totally withdrawing from all PDP activities

President Olusegun Obasanjo has fired another letter, this time, to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in which he gave a notice of his withdrawal from the activities of the party.

OBJ LETTER: Al Mustapha denies training snipers for Jonathan to assassinate political opponents

Former Major Hamza Al-Mustapha yesterday called for an open debate with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in connection with his open letter to Presdent Goodluck Jonathan.

Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha, spoke on the Voice of America (VOA) Hausa service whilc reacting to the allusion made to him in the letter.

The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has submitted himself to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, for probe over criminal allegations against him by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Acting on the instruction of the president, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, forwarded Chief Obasanjo’s letter to the commission for investigation into the alleged rights violations contained in the letter.

The AGF, in a memo dated December 23 and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Professor Bem Angwe, requested the commission to investigate the allegations bordering on human rights violations contained on page 9-10 of the letter.

President Jonathan Goodluck yesterday submitted himself to the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, for probe over criminal allegations against him by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Former President Obasanjo had written an 18-page open letter to Jonathan, accusing him of incompetence, engaging in anti-party activities, ethnicism and training about 1,000 snipers ahead of the 2015 polls.

Jonathan, who denied the allegations in his response, is specifically inviting the rights commission to unravel the truth in the allegation that his government had begun training over 1,000 snipers to terminate his political opponents.
